The School Garden Project

Last term, Room 12 started a vegetable garden behind the school hall. Because the area received plenty of sunlight throughout the day, the teachers thought it would be the perfect spot. The students were very excited and worked hard to prepare the soil.

Unfortunately, after just two weeks, many of the seedlings began to wilt and turn brown. Mrs. Patterson investigated and discovered that the students had been watering the plants too much. As a result, the roots were sitting in waterlogged soil and couldn't get enough oxygen. The class learned an important lesson about overwatering.

Following Mrs. Patterson's advice, the students created a watering schedule and added drainage holes to their garden beds. Because of these changes, the new plants they replanted grew strong and healthy. By the end of term, the garden was thriving, and the students harvested fresh lettuce, tomatoes, and herbs for the school kitchen.
