Recount Writing: Personal Experiences
Remember: A recount tells about events that have already happened. Use past tense verbs and time connectives (First, Next, Then, After that, Finally, Later, Eventually) to show the order of events.
Part A: Time Connectives Warm-Up
Fill in the blanks with appropriate time connectives from the word bank:
1. _________________, I woke up early and got dressed for the school trip.
2. _________________, we boarded the bus and found our seats.
3. _________________, we arrived at the museum and met our tour guide.
4. _________________, we explored the dinosaur exhibition.
5. _________________, we returned to school tired but happy.
Part B: Past Tense Practice
Rewrite these present tense sentences in the past tense:
1. I walk to the beach. → _________________________________________________
2. We play soccer in the park. → _________________________________________________
3. She sees a beautiful rainbow. → _________________________________________________
Part C: Write Your Personal Recount
Choose a memorable experience from your life (a school trip, a birthday party, a family outing, a sports day, etc.) and write a recount. Remember to include:
- Orientation: Who? What? Where? When?
- Events: What happened in order? (Use time connectives!)
- Conclusion: How did you feel? What did you think?
